Merino, Bamboo and silk

For some reason this scarf took forever to get started on its migration. I picked up some merino/bamboo purple fiber added a bit of white roving on some habotai silk and worked it and worked it and worked it and then gave up and let it sit overnight. Next day it started to cooperate with me and I was able to finish this scarf.

Rhode Island School of Design - Loom and waterfire.

A recent visit to RISD allowed me to view the Jacquard Loom in action.

It was very interesting to watch it work. And to see some of the student results from the loom

We also got to see Waterfire again in downtown Providence,  Stars lit in the park, fire in the canal and a few gargoyle come to life statues.

We always enjoy visiting our daughter even though its an exhausting trip.

Inspiration in cave pearls

I recently read about a cave that was discovered somewhere that was so big it had a rain forest inside. They also mentioned cave pearls.  From Wikipedia ... cave pearl is a small, usually spherical, speleothem (cave formation) found in limestone caves. Cave pearls are formed by a concretion of calcium salts that form concentric layers around a nucleus. Exposure to moving water polishes the surface of cave pearls, making them glossy; if exposed to the air, cave pearls can degrade and appear rough.

If you google them you will see how beautiful the designs are. These are some of the felted pieces I have been playing around with using cave pearls as my inspiration.
